Membership FAQ

SquadOps is part of the Ops Gaming 501c7 non-profit club, which oversees and drives the larger community of the Discord server, public game servers, one-life events, and community games outside of the normal scheduled events. As a non-profit club, we welcome anyone that believes in our ethos. Join us and help shape the future of our community! Membership is not required to play in our normal events, but it is an option for those that wish to donate funds and have a say in how we operate.

How do I play in the one-life events?

Simply create an account and sign up for them on the calendar! Club membership is not required to play in events.

How can I get whitelisted on the game servers to skip the queue?

While we used to offer a free whitelist benefit to all account holders, we have switched to a paid whitelist option to help fund server costs. You can head to our Patreon page and subscribe to the lowest tier that includes the whitelist benefit. Club membership is not required to gain whitelist status (although the higher cost club membership tiers also come with the whitelist benefit).

Why should I join the non-profit club?

Club membership shows your support to the community and interest in helping drive the future of what we do. Membership does provide a bit more than just playing in our servers and events, though. We have dedicated club-only discord channels to chat with fellow members, club-only events to join your fellow members in other games and get togethers, and club-only giveaways and resources.

Members will be invited to attend our quarterly club meetings where we discuss various items of business that change how we operate as a community. The funds collected from membership dues are usually spent on hosting services but any left over can be reserved for other community efforts and these meetings are where the membership as a whole can propose and vote on where these funds are spent.

How do I become a club member?

Membership is handled through Patreon. Head on over to our page and select one of the tiers that states it grants club membership (note that we have a lower tier for whitelist only, excluding club membership). It’s that simple! To enjoy the Discord benefits, you will need to link your Discord account with Patreon as their bot syncs membership status.

Where do the funds go?

Club members will have access to our financial statements per our non-profit bylaws. These are shared in our club-only channels. Generally speaking, we reserve the funds for game servers, web hosting, administrative services (e.g. Google Workspaces, server admin tools). Surplus funds are reserved for other community benefits and enhancements (e.g. additional media or modding services/assets, proposals presented by the club membership) and community events (e.g. club-only games outside our normal event offering, giveaways for these games).

What if I want to donate more than the tier amount?

You can subscribe to a tier, then go back and edit your subscription to increase the amount donated. This additional amount will be included in the auto-renewal as well, so remember to adjust it accordingly. We are investigating alternative avenues for one-time donations, but currently Patreon is the only method to send us funding.
